Time To Upgrade Your Upper Control Arms?
Why Upgrade Your Upper Control Arm?:
After market upper control arms are required when lifting the vehicle. The factory upper control arms were not designed for additional lift and commonly limit at the outer joint which eventually will lead to a failure. In addition, the control arms need more caster to get the vehicle within alignment specs. The Dirt King line of upper control arms solve both issues. Our upper control arms have high articulation outer joints to allow for the lift. The location of the joints is also repositioned to increase the caster and get the vehicle within alignment specs. All the control arms we offer are substantially stronger than the factory control arms making them great for daily driving and off-road use. Over time as components wear out, every part on our control arms can be replaced resulting in a product that will last a lifetime.
Upper Control Arm Options:
We offer several lines of upper control arms or UCAs. We have ball joint and bushing UCAs, uniball and bushing UCAs, and uniball and heim UCAs. We do not offer all these options for each model. The boxed UCAs with uniballs and bushings is where our UCA product line started. The 1” uniball has been the industry standard for upper control arms for many years due to it’s strength and high articulation. More recently we began offering UCAs with Moog high articulation ball joints and bushings because the ball joints have the same benefits of the uniball without the disadvantage of the internals being exposed to the elements. Our uniball and heim arms are great if additional adjustment is needed out of the control arms. The common needs for additional adjustment are fine tuning alignment specs for custom applications or having a bent frame and trying to get the vehicle within factory alignment specs. These arms are also common for the Ford Raptors due to the suspension geometry which requires the upper arms to be extended when increasing the lift. The disadvantage to the uniball and heim arms are the bearing internals being exposed to the elements and both joints are rigid making the ride quality not as smooth compared to bushing UCAs.
Ball Joint & Bushing UCAs:
The Dirt King Fabrication ball joint and bushing UCAs are constructed from 4130 chromoly tubing, utilize Moog heavy duty ball joints, and polyurethane bushing inner pivots. The ball joints and bushing have grease fittings to easily service the joints. The ball joints have an advantage over the uniball bearing because the ball joints are fully sealed. They last longer than the uniball bearings and require less service. The ball joint is a high articulation joint that offers the same performance as the uniballs. Lastly the Moog ball joints are a commonly found part marking them easier to source when it is time to replace them compared to the uniball bearings.
Uniball & Bushing UCAs:
The Dirt King Fabrication uniball and bushing UCAs are constructed from 3/16” boxed plates, includes stainless steel logo plates, utilize FK 1” stainless steel uniballs, and polyurethane bushing inner pivots. The boxed plate design has been very popular for it stylish looks. Just like the rest of our products the weld quality on these arms is far superior to others in the industry. Every arm is welded, inspected, assembled, and packaged in USA!
Uniball & Heim UCAs:
The Dirt King Fabrication uniball and heim UCAs are constructed from 3/16” boxed plates, includes stainless steel logo plates, utilize FK 1” stainless steel uniballs, and FK ¾” rod ends. These control arms allow for additional adjustment where the other two control arms have fixed inner joints. The additional adjustment allows the camber and caster to be fine-tuned. Need additional adjust out of your upper control arms is somewhat rare but if the problem arises we have the fix.
Popular Shocks:
Fox 2.5 Coilovers | Remote Reservoir
The 2.5” Fox OEM Factory Series coilovers are direct bolt-on replacement shocks intended for maximum performance. These coilovers are specifically designed to optimize off-road performance without compromising on-road handling. They include all necessary hardware needed for installation and for most applications the shocks are adjustable for up to 3” of lift.
Fox 2.5 Smooth Body Shocks | Remote Reservoir
The 2.5” Fox OEM Factory Series rear smooth body shocks are direct bolt-on replacement shocks. These rear shocks are specifically designed to optimize off-road performance without compromising on-road handling. They include all necessary hardware needed for installation and for most applications the shocks allow for up to 1.5” of lift in the rear.
FAQ's:
-
Q: Do the upper control arms lift the vehicle?
A: Aftermarket upper control arms do not lift the vehicle. The lift is provided by the aftermarket shocks. These shocks require upper control arms that have more articulation compared to stock. -
Q: Can I later purchase just the long travel lower control arms to pair with the uppers?
A: The long travel lowers are not compatible with these upper control arms because they are factory width. The long travel kit has extended upper and lower control arms and only works as a complete kit. -
Q: What shocks should I pair with the upper control arms?
A: Selecting the right set of shocks is based on how you will use the vehicle. If you’re looking to lift the vehicle and only use it for street use then we would recommend the Fox 2.0 IFP shocks. If you’re looking to use the vehicle for on road and off road we would recommend the Fox 2.5 shocks with remote reservoirs.
In this video we talk about the benefits of Dirt King control arms and Fox shocks. The information given in this video should help you decide which products are best for your vehicle. Choose between a budget friendly lift package for mainly on road driving or a mid travel package that is great for on road and off road performance.
