Dirt King Ball Joint Upper Control Arms

1. Raise the vehicle and prepare for installation

a. Safely support the vehicle.

b. Remove the front wheels.

2. Remove shock from vehicle

a. Remove the brake line bracket and ABS line from the upper control arm and steering knuckle.

b. Remove the upper control arm ball joint nut. Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle with a ball joint puller.

c. Remove the upper shock mounting hardware.

d. Remove the lower shock hardware.

e. Remove the shock from the vehicle.

3. Remove the upper control arm

a. Remove the two upper control arm pivot bolts at the chassis.

b. Remove the upper control arm.

4. Remove the factory bump stop

a. Cut the factory bump stop from the chassis using an appropriate cutting tool. Be careful with surrounding areas that can be damaged by sparks.

b. Use the image to the right as a reference for where to cut.

c. Clean and paint bare metal, and allow paint to cure.

5. Install the new Dirt King upper control arm

a. Mount the new upper control arm into the chassis mounts using the factory removed hardware.

b. Torque the hardware to factory specifications. Please reference the image to the right for your bolt type.

6. Reattach brake and ABS lines

a. Attach the brake line clamp to the upper control arm and torque the nut to 10 ft-lbs.

b. Reattach the ABS line to the steering knuckle and torque to factory specification: 80 in-lbs.

7. Install shock

a. Note: Aftermarket shocks are required due to extra down travel the upper control arms provide.

b. Install shocks per your manufacturer's instructions.

c. Attach the upper control arm to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to 85 ft-lbs.

8. Inspect your work

a. Inspect your work. Ensure everything is tight.

b. Repeat the steps on the other side of the vehicle.

c. Remount wheels and torque to your manufacturer's specifications.

9. Align the vehicle

a. Have the vehicle aligned at a qualified shop.

b. If your vehicle is equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ensure it is recalibrated.
