Attention: Failure to install the included dust boots may damage shafts and seals, resulting in leakage and voided warranty coverage.
1. Gather tools needed for the job
a. Gather tools needed for the job:
- Socket Wrench
- Breaker bar
- 19 mm wrench
- 22 mm wrench
- 19 mm socket
- 17 mm socket
- 12 mm socket
- 5 mm Allen socket
- Torque wrench
2. Raise vehicle
a. Safely raise the vehicle by the frame and support the rear axle.
b. Remove the rear tires.
3. Shock hardware removal
a. Remove the lower shock mounting hardware.
4. Shock hardware removal (continued)
a. Remove the upper shock mounting hardware.
5. Shock removal
a. Remove the shock from the vehicle.
6. Insert installation
a. Remove the factory frame plug located behind the bump stop.
b. Place the included insert into the frame. Ensure the rounded end of the insert points toward the rear of the vehicle.
c. Note: The insert must be placed with the rounded ear first. It can then be rotated to sit properly in the frame. A bolt can be used to assist with installation.
7. Reservoir bracket installation
a. Install the reservoir bracket over the previously installed insert. Torque both bolts to 19 ft-lbs.
8. Factory bushing installation (recommended)
a. Install the included sleeve onto the top stem.
9. Factory bushing installation (continued)
a. Install the factory lower bushing in the same orientation as removed.
10. Install included bushings (optional)
a. While the OE bushings are recommended, the included bushings can be used if needed. Using the included bushings does not require the additional sleeve.
11. Install shock
a. Insert the DK shock into the upper shock mount and ensure the locating ridges of the bushings are centered within the mount.
b. Torque the upper shock mounting hardware to 18 ft-lbs.
12. Install shock (continued)
a. Install the lower shock mounting hardware and torque to 72 ft-lbs.
13. Install reservoir
a. Place the reservoir into the clamps while ensuring hose clearance is adequate to all surrounding areas.
b. Once the reservoir is properly oriented, torque the clamp bolts to 12 ft-lbs.
14. Review work and repeat on opposite side
a. Inspect all components to ensure they are properly installed and have adequate clearance.
b. Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to the wheel manufacturer’s specifications.
