Parts Included
1. Raise the vehicle and prepare for install
a. Safely support the vehicle.
b. Remove the front wheels.
2. Remove steering linkage
a. Unbolt and remove the steering shaft from the U-joint on the driver side of the vehicle.
b. Note: Ensure the steering wheel remains stationary and the joint stays aligned once the U-joint bolt is removed to prevent damage to the clock spring.
3. Remove upper control arm
a. Remove the ball joint nut connecting the upper control arm to the steering knuckle.
b. Separate the upper control arm from the steering knuckle using a ball joint puller.
c. Remove the pivot bolt at the rear of the upper control arm.
d. Remove the upper control arm from the chassis.
4. Install Dirt King upper control arm
a. Note: Aftermarket shocks are required for the additional drop and proper alignment with the new upper control arm.
b. Insert the new upper control arm into the chassis mounts. Ensure the supplied bushing spacers are positioned on the outside of the bushings as shown. Torque the nut to 173 ft-lbs.
c. Torque the rear pivot bolt to 122 ft-lbs.
d. Install the ball joint to the steering knuckle and torque the nut to 81 ft-lbs.
5. Reconnect steering linkage
a. Insert the steering shaft into the U-joint in the same position as removed.
b. Apply red thread locker to the bolt and torque to 22 ft-lbs.
6. Inspect and repeat on other side
a. Inspect all components to ensure they are correctly installed.
b. Ensure all fasteners are properly tightened.
c. Repeat the steps on the other side of the vehicle.
7. Reinstall wheels and align the vehicle
a. Reinstall the wheels and torque the lug nuts to your wheel manufacturer’s specifications.
b. Have the vehicle aligned at a certified shop. If equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), ensure recalibration is performed.
